According to Hugo von Hofmannstahl the essay by Kleist is an engaging with thought and adept with grace piece of philosophy. The spectacle “The Essay on Marionette Theatre or How to Overcome Gravity in Three Acts” is an attempt to read Kleist in a contemporary way and in the modern puppet theatre. The film tells about what interested the authors during the work on this spectacle the most.
It is the reference to the relation between the human being and the puppet, the theatrical comparison of the two beings. And exactly on this subject the authors of the spectacle focused, “testing” in practice the current sense of Kleist’s thesis.
The director of the spectacle is Frank Soehnle, an outstanding German puppeteer, director, puppet creator.
